Facilities

Two astroturfs, an amazing clubhouse (with discounts at the bar for members) and a multi-use games area.

We have one of the best hockey facilities in South East of England.

An ambitious hockey club with first class facilities

Coaching

Our coaching at all levels is fantastic, with Joe Gleeson as Coach / Director of Junior Hockey, David Cooper as Men’s First Team Player / Coach and Dawn Whitmore as Coach / Director of Women’s Hockey. These coaches supported by team level coaches provide the best possible environment for all players and teams to develop and thrive in.

We provide high level, consistent coaching ensuring all players feel valued and part of the OMT family.

Culture

OMT Hockey mirrors the cultural ambitions of Merchant Taylors’ School. The club is inclusive and friendly. There are no superstars, just teammates that do the best they can for one another every week. While the club, especially in the Juniors, strives to help players get to the top level, its greater aim is to sustain its value to members as a wonderful place to spend time with friends.

Why I joined and stayed…

“I joined OMTHC for its excellent facilities with 2 water-based Astros modern clubhouse overlooking the playing grounds.

I like ambition. OMTHC’s ambition to establish itself as a leading hockey club in the area resonated with me and it sets an example to my son. The club has grown and attracts talented players.

What makes it special playing at OMTHC is the camaraderie between the players of all age groups and abilities. The bonds for some formed at school are carried on years later. We play hard on and off the field. There is great team spirit.

I also wanted to be involved in my son’s hockey development.I’ve watched him progress through from Junior to Men’s hockey and enjoyed playing alongside him.  The close links between MTS and OMTHC made this possible. I’d encourage anyone to come along and give hockey and the club a try!”

Player and parent

“I joined the OMT Hockey Club over 3 years ago and love being part of it.

When I first came there was a small group of ladies with a good team spirit. Now we have three teams of great ladies and girls and I’m so proud of how it’s grown. We have an amazing, supportive spirit and look to support each other in everything we do, inside and outside of hockey.

If you’re intimidated by the club, the huge clubhouse and facilities don’t be. I was reluctant at first because it seemed so grand and I was unsure whether I’d fit in. I was wrong to worry. Dawn, our coach, has amazing ‘back to hockey’ initiatives and the club makes you feel at home from the moment you walk through the door. I now help Dawn and the club out and really feel a part of the club. I love being a member here. Come along, its great!”

Sandra Bennett

Player

Ruaridh loves playing hockey at OMTs. The facilities are second to none and it has given him access to top quality coaching which has brought his game on significantly in the last few years.

He has made really good friends in his age group and the boys have been successful as a team playing against good opposition on a Sunday helping Ruaridh and others to progress to County honours and above.

It is a friendly club that enjoys its hockey and has an energy and enthusiasm about it but is serious about playing competitively and winning. Ruaridh started playing for the men’s 2nd XI this year and was welcomed and quickly made to feel part of the team.

Hockey is an all year round sport and OMTs has a thriving Summer League with several teams and has given Ruaridh the opportunity to play with players from higher age groups and against his pals from other clubs.

He has also enrolled for additional summer training (with his own money!) and is looking forward to getting stuck in again once his exams are over.

Men’s, Women’s and Juniors

Our Men’s club has been running for more than 50 years. Five years ago we launched the women’s club and more recently the Juniors. All clubs are thriving. The men’s teams are solid in their leagues. With several Merchant Taylors’ boys playing for the club every year and old boys returning after University and club experience, the teams are strengthening and we have ambitions of a first team progressing further up the leagues.

The women’s club has three teams and an incredible club spirit. They’re a mixture of experienced players and some that are completely new to the sport. They’re a force to be reckoned with on and off the field … especially in the bar.

The Juniors are quickly becoming the pride of the club. We are proud of the fact that every year, a number of our Juniors play at County, Regional and even National level.
